How Tanjung Came About

Tanjung started as a response to something we kept noticing: small business owners in Seremban and the surrounding areas often had good instincts and real commitment, but not enough time or distance to think carefully about the direction of their business. The day-to-day work consumed all available attention, and the harder questions — about structure, about priorities, about what to hold onto and what to change — kept getting deferred.

We set up in No. 6, Jalan Dato Onn, with the intention of offering something that was genuinely useful rather than impressive-sounding. The name Tanjung, meaning a headland or promontory — a point of land that reaches out into the water — reflects how we think about what we do. A headland is a fixed reference point. It does not move. When you are navigating uncertain water, you look for it.

Our approach borrows from the way skilled craftspeople work: slowly, attentively, and with respect for the material. We do not believe good advisory work can be done quickly or at distance. It requires sitting with someone's actual situation, understanding what they have built and why, and then working carefully from there.

We keep our client list small by design. This is not a volume business. Each engagement receives attention that cannot be replicated if the list grows too long. Owners who work with us know they are getting the time and thinking the engagement actually requires — not a standardised report produced from a template.

The People Behind the Work

A small team of advisors who have worked with businesses across Negeri Sembilan. Each person brings different depth to the conversations.

CK

Chong Kai Lin

Operations Specialist

Brings a background in operations and process improvement. Works with owners to find where effort is being wasted and where systems would make daily work steadier.

How We Work

Standards that shape every engagement we take on — not written for a brochure, but followed in the actual work.

Strict Confidentiality

Everything shared in an engagement — financial details, business plans, concerns — stays entirely within that engagement. We do not share client information with anyone.

Written Recommendations

Advice given verbally is too easy to misremember. Every recommendation of substance is written down and delivered to you so you can return to it at any point.

No Conflicts of Interest

We do not take commissions, referral fees, or payments from third parties. Our interests are aligned with yours — and only with yours — throughout the engagement.

Careful Preparation

We read and review everything relevant before each session. Time with you is used for the harder thinking, not for gathering basic information that could have been reviewed beforehand.

Selective Client List

We take on a limited number of engagements at any time. This is deliberate — it is how we ensure each client receives the focus and care that good advisory work requires.

Honest Scope Conversations

If your situation falls outside what a given engagement covers, we will say so clearly before you commit. You will not discover a mismatch after work has started.

Small Business Advisory in Negeri Sembilan

Small business owners in Malaysia face a particular set of challenges that larger organisations do not. Decisions are made with less information, under more pressure, and with fewer people to think through consequences. A weak season affects the owner's household directly. There is rarely a specialist for every function — the same person often handles sales, operations, staff, and finances simultaneously.

Tanjung has worked with businesses across Seremban and Negeri Sembilan for over a decade. Our understanding of the local context — how suppliers and customers here operate, what the market conditions look like, how regulatory requirements affect small operators — is not borrowed from textbooks. It has come from doing the work over time, in the same place, with a wide range of businesses.

Our three engagement formats reflect the range of situations owners come to us from. The First Heat engagement is for owners who have something forming but no clear shape yet — a business idea, a significant change, or a direction they are considering. The Shaping Review works for owners who want their existing operations looked at carefully and strengthened. The Forge Partnership is designed for those building steadily over a longer period who want consistent advisory support as conditions change.

We work in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Sessions are held at our office in Jalan Dato Onn, Seremban, or by arrangement for clients in nearby areas.
